Milan Win Super Cup

AC  Milan  3 : 1  Sevilia  FC

AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti dedicated his side's European Super Cup to Sevilla defender Antonio Puerta, who died just days before the Monaco showpiece.

Puerta passed away in hospital after being taken ill during last weekend's La Liga clash with Getafe, with the Spain international's death casting a long shadow over events in the principality.

Ancelotti said: "Of course we dedicate this trophy to Antonio Puerta. The game was played despite the atmosphere of great sadness.

"It was very difficult for all of us, but it was decided it had to go ahead and so we played.

"It was a very intense game. I think what has happened in the last few days with Puerta's death created a very special atmosphere and Sevilla of course were much more affected.

"It was difficult to face up to the situation, but we also played for him and did it in the best possible spirit.

For the record Milan beat Sevilla 3-1 thanks to goals from Pippo Inzaghi, Marek Jankulovski and Kaka.
