Grant Was Happy After Game

Chelsea got off to a flier after Florent Malouda capitalised on a goalkeeping error to smash his side into a fourth minute lead.

With such a good start, another English goal-fest seemed on the cards, but Chelsea, despite carving out a few chances, went back into themselves throughout the rest of the period.

But after half time Didier Drogba struck to make it two, however as in the first half, Chelsea took their foot off the gas and were lucky not to conceded, Soren Laursen rattling a header against the post.

However The Blues hung on and now sit top of Group G on seven points.

Manager Avram Grant told Sky Sports: "I'm happy that we continued the positive football we have played for the last four weeks. We got the win, we are in first place, so I'm happy."

He added: "We wanted to start the game well, we did that What is most important is to win and what was also important was that we continued the football we have played in the last few weeks."

But the boss acknowledged his side will still face a tough test when they face the Bundesliga side in a fortnight in Germany.

"It's not going to be easy to play away to Schalke. It's a beautiful stadium but it's in two weeks' time. We have league and Carling Cup games to worry about first and then we can look forward to it."
