Wenger: I Am Happy we Won Againn

Robin van Persie scored a thundering free kick inside ten minutes and Senderos added another soon after. Sunderland fought back with goals from Danny Wallace and Kenwyne Jones, but van Persie got his second of the afternoon and sealed Arsenal’s win.

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, remains positive about the home sides performance that moves them back to the top of the Premiership table, despite conceding two goals at The Emirates.

“I am pleased that we are back to the top and that we won the game. I must say I am pleased overall with the overall attitude of the whole team, but at 2-0 the game looked easy, maybe in our mind, a bit too easy and we lost a bit of urgency,” he said.

“We game them more room to express their talent and they have, and they came back to 2-1, 2-2 and then it was a test of our mental strength and resilience but we had the quality and in the end Robin van Persie got the third goal and I think it was deserved, but they had chances as well.”

When questioned about Abou Diaby’s third goal for Arsenal, which was disallowed for offside and would have given Arsenal a 3-0 lead inside twenty minutes, Wenger is philosophical of the decision.

“You can complain or not but it doesn’t change anything,” he added in an uncharacteristically accepting manner.

He cannot resist contributing his opinion though and offers a suggestion the linesman responsible for disallowing the goal, “I thought it was a normal goal”
