With Pep Guardiola announcing yesterday that he intends to treat Eto'o as a regular squad member, Txiki Begiristain's insistence that the Cameroonian will move n seems to be outdated.
Originally Deco, Ronaldinho and Eto'o were named by the coach as three players outwith his plans, but the third has apparently won back the boss' respect after a glistening pre-season.
Moreover he is considerably younger than the first two, who have been shuffled off to Chelsea and AC Milan, respectively.
With no serious offers yet to be entertained for Eto'o, then, it seems as if the Cameroonian is likely to stay, not least in light of Joan Laporta's remarks that his situation is not definite.
View From Madrid
Marca, meanwhile, contends that Laporta is in fact growing into one of Eto'o's greatest defenders, while Guardiola may trust him to be the 'number 9' for next season.
Of course there is pragmatism at play, too. Few, if any clubs are willing to match Barcelona's wage packet to the player, while replacements such as Didier Drogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Trezeguet have yet to pan out.
The player himself, of course, has publicly stated his displeasure with some aspects of life at Camp Nou, but nonetheless may opt to continue in light of his successes so far.
