Following Sunday’s 1-1 draw in Hamburg, Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld praised both teams’ solid defences in a game of few chances. “It was a bit unfortunate at the end,” said Hitzfeld, who added he was happy with a point on a bad day for Bayern.
“Obviously, you can’t be satisfied when you’ve conceded an equaliser just before the end, but we were lucky to take the lead in the first place. Both teams defended well and neither allowed their opponents much of a sight at goal” he explained.
“We neglected to score a second and we came under pressure in the closing stages, when we were too passive. It was all a bit unfortunate, but you have to be happy with a point on a bad day. We can live with the result.”
President Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitted, “It was a good Bundesliga match and a deserved point for both teams. Hamburg would have been unlucky to lose.
“We’ve made a good start and we lead the table on ten points. I hope our internationals come back to us uninjured, as we have a crucial game against Schalke in two weeks.”
